Where to go in
COLOMBIA
Colombia has six natural regions, from the Caribbean coast to the Amazon, and our team works in all of them. We start in Boyacá, where we are based, and design routes that combine two or three regions according to your dates, your interests and the season.

Andean region
Three ranges of the Andes cross the country from south to north, and most Colombians live between them. Here you find Bogotá, Medellín and Cali, the coffee region, the colonial towns of Boyacá and Santander, and the archaeological parks of San Agustín and Tierradentro.
Caribbean region
The northern coast combines the walled city of Cartagena, the colonial town of Mompox, the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta with its snow-capped peaks near the sea, Tayrona National Park and the desert of La Guajira, home of the Wayúu people.
Pacific region
A band of rainforest between the Western Andes and the Pacific Ocean, with a strong Afro-Colombian culture. Humpback whales arrive along this coast to give birth, usually between July and October.
Orinoquía
The eastern plains, or Llanos, are a land of savannahs, rivers and cattle ranches, with the music and traditions of the llanero culture. Nearby, in the Serranía de La Macarena, the river Caño Cristales turns red, yellow and green for part of the year.
Amazon
The south of Colombia is covered by the Amazon rainforest. Leticia, on the Amazon River, is the gateway to indigenous communities and to one of the most biodiverse ecosystems on the planet. Chiribiquete National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site, protects ancient rock art in the heart of the forest.
Insular region
In the Caribbean, the islands of San Andrés, Providencia and Santa Catalina are home to the Raizal people, with their own English-based creole. In the Pacific, the islands of Gorgona and Malpelo are protected for their marine life.
Destinations we know best

Villa de Leyva and Boyacá:
colonial villages, fossils and craft traditions, three to four hours from Bogotá.

El Cocuy National Park:
glaciers and high Andean trails, with certified local guides.

Lake Tota and Monguí:
Colombia's largest natural lake, a colonial village and the Ocetá páramo.

Cartagena and the Caribbean coast:
the walled city, the islands and the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta.
How to combine regions
Distances in Colombia are longer than the map suggests, because the Andes cross the country from south to north. A good route combines one Andean region reached by road, such as Boyacá, with one or two regions reached by a short domestic flight, such as the coffee region or the Caribbean. Ten days are enough for two regions; two weeks allow three.
When to go
Colombia can be visited all year. In the Andes, the drier months are usually December to March and July to August. On the Caribbean coast, December to April is the driest period. Our Colombia travel guide explains the climate region by region.
